Milan. What can we say. We have Versace who would go onto make news for their sale to Michael Kors for $2.2 billion dollars to Gucci. Italy is synonymous with fashion. For our picks from Milan Fashion Week, we have some classic brands to some newer brands.

As we do with our fashion picks, we are looking for brands that offer you variety for your wardrobe, to take you from the beach to brunch to your night out.

Ermanno Scervino

Ermanno Scervino takes us from classic to edgy in one runway show. We love the versatility in these looks, as the exceptional craftsmanship and the design detail are a given.

Before we get to our favorite looks, let us take a quick moment to talk about some stand out techniques seen in these clothes: trench coats and double leather coats were fabricated as if they were soft silk, there are some oversized jackets, belts made of crystals and mirrors and the list goes on. Again, the craftsmanship and the design detail when it comes to Ermanno Scervino is a given.

Brognano

Having just launched Brognano in 2015, designer and founder Nicola Brognano knows who he is designing for. There is a bit of whimsy, along with elegance. We appreciate this blending of what can be two completely different worlds.

Marni

Structure ruled the runway for Marni‘s ss19 show. We liked seeing the varying shapes and of course the graphics. These looks would add versatility and another dimension, no pun intended, to anyone’s wardrobe.

La Revêche

La Revêche had been on our radar, and when we heard they were going to be present at MFW, we knew we had to include them in our MFW coverage. As the brand highlights, these are swimsuits that go beyond the beach. They are swimsuits with a flair that can be paired with a skirt or pants and worn out on the town. As you know, we love to see swimwear as daywear and nightwear. This is a brand that does that oh so well.

“When I was a child my mom used to buy me cute hairbands with floral details,” La Revêche founder Sara Melis said. “I loved them, and these floral details have been on my mind ever since.”

Melis continued, “The importance of Sardinian craftsmanship is well known all over the world, and the wise hands of our tailors continue bringing the values of the past to life. My swimsuits are made with top quality Italian fabrics and finished with precious chiffon floral details.”

Stella Jean

This Rome-based brand caught our attention with its ss19 collection. The pieces we chose from Stella Jean‘s ss19 collection are ones we could easily see ourselves wearing once the temperatures rise again. Overall, we appreciate the colors used – this includes hand-painted and hand-embroidered details – and the fabrics leveraged – such as organic cotton from Benin (EcoCert S.A.), Sangallo lace and silk cady. Each style has shape – including wide skirts, although, with the tailoring and cut of the fabric, they would flatter all shapes.

Now, let us get to the details of this collection, shared with us by Stella Jean.

“The ss19 collection has highlighted the Cotton Route, a centuries- old Beninese tradition of excellence, and that which Benin sees as the first port of docking: Brazil. This is where the culture and traditions thought to have been eradicated, through the abuses inflicted, have been reborn and have continued to live in parallel.”

Blumarine

We saw the biker short trend popping up on the street during London Fashion Week and Blumarine made this look their own. We love the fresh color and light-hearted approach to the designs. There is a sense of whimsy, along with looks you can wear to the office. As the brand shared, “romantic activewear: a contradiction in terms, almost an oxymoron.” Quite well said, and we are liking this oxymoron and the saturated colors used, including orange, orchid, turquoise and sunflower. Bring on spring!
