We appreciate a great photograph, we love fashion and you know we have a soft spot for models. Now, there is an upcoming exhibit that combines all three.
Opening 15 September, Galleria Dallas in collaboration with 1814 MAGAZINE and the Texas Fashion Collection – part of the University of North Texas College of Visual Arts and Design – will unveil their exhibit, “Age of the Supermodel: The Photographs of Donna DeMari”.
“Galleria Dallas is proud to host this amazing collection of historic fashion images and the garments showcased by them,” commented Martha Hinojosa, director of marketing for Galleria Dallas. “We have a strong history of bringing fashion and its history to life in our space, and we are committed to creating interactive, educational and entertaining experiences such as this [exhibit].”
The imagery included in this exhibit is by American fashion photographer Donna DeMari who was the first woman to shoot the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition in 1995 and 1996 and has been published in Italian Vogue, British Vogue, Australian Vogue, L’Officiel and French Marie Claire. In 1991, she was commissioned by British Vogue and the publication’s editor, Liz Tilberis, to go behind-the-scenes of the fall-winter haute couture shows in Paris to photograph the models and the designs.

We now have one-of-a-kind imagery that features models Linda Evangelista, Carla Bruni, Naomi Campbell, Gisele Zelauy, Yasmeen Ghuri, Christy Turlington, Heather Stewart-Whyte, Susie Bick, Tatjana Patitz, Kristen McMenamy, Nadia Auerman, Claudia Mason, Karen Mulder and more. The photographs are raw, real and show a different side to some iconic faces we have seen many times before. They were shot on DeMari’s Nikon F2.
As for the designs DeMari got access to, the brands include Pierre Balmain, Chanel, Jean Louis Scherrer, Guy Laroche, Emanuel Ungaro, Christian LaCroix, Valentino, Givenchy and Lanvin.
We cannot wait! We are thinking we need to make a trip out to Texas.
The “Age of the Supermodel: The Photographs of Donna DeMari” exhibit has been curated by Michael Thomas, editor and publisher of 1814 MAGAZINE, and Jocelyn Meintser, senior editor of 1814 MAGAZINE, with the haute couture pieces curated by Annette Becker, director of UNT Texas Fashion Collection.
