We recently got to speak with the founder of Lagoa Swimwear, Lauren Elizabeth. Her LA-based swimwear brand caught our attention straight-away due to its functionality – has built-in pockets – and its cuts. And, if that was not enough, it is also reversible.
Elizabeth began her Lagoa Swimwear journey when she was living in Brazil, where she was frequenting the country’s beaches. As a woman in a bikini, she quickly realized she had very few options as to where she could store her cash and keys when she went into the water. The idea for what would become Lagoa Swimwear was beginning to take shape.
Flash-forward to her time in Los Angeles when she finally decided it was time to produce a sample of the bikini she had envisioned. Once it was completed, she began wearing her sample on the LA-area beaches, and people began to inquire. She started to fill orders, and the brand grew from there.
Although still a young brand, Elizabeth has kept production in LA.
“Producing swimwear is a lot harder than clothing. I found my current factory by word-of-mouth,” Elizabeth shared with us. “I wanted to have quality production, and with having production in LA, I’m able to check-in on the production.”
The people in LA have also inspired Elizabeth, as many are “passionate” about projects and causes, such as the Surfrider Foundation that helps to protect and preserve the oceans and beaches. This is a cause she now continues to support through Lagoa Swimwear, where 10 percent of sales are donated to the Foundation.
“Being happy with yourself starts from within, and I think it’s important for women to see the swimwear on bodies that look like theirs.”
One thing you will notice with Lagoa Swimwear is the inclusion of all women.
“Being happy with yourself starts from within, and I think it’s important for women to see the swimwear on bodies that look like theirs,” Elizabeth commented. “It’s about developing a community.”
Elizabeth is currently working on her 2019 resort and spring-summer collections. She shared some teasers with us, including some new additions to the swimwear line-up – a bandeau top and a “skimpy bottom”.
In the meantime, you can catch the Lagoa Swimwear Team at multiple events throughout the LA-area this summer. Be sure to stop by and say, “Hello”!
